Located in New York's cultural epicenter, The Mandarin Oriental Hotel occupies 20 floors of a sparkling new architectural behemoth at Columbus Circle, replete with its own shopping mall.
Port Morris contributed their expertise and craftsmanship to many aspects of this grand project, including work in the lobby of the North Tower Hotel, the Skylobby Spa and Restaurant, and a grand staircase connecting the hotel health club and ballroom. Stone was installed throughout numerous residential areas, including the Mandarin and Presidential suites. In addition to its own local fabrication shop, Port Morris employed a number of shops in Italy to produce the finished product.
The lobbies in the North Tower and residential areas feature marble and granite floors, installed in elliptical patterns. Curved limestone walls with a marble base appear throughout.
The grand staircase leading to the hotel ballroom consists of granite and marble with glass and stainless steel handrails; its helicoidal design created a number of intricate stone fabrication and installation challenges.
A variety of different marble, granite, limestone, quartzite, ceramic and glass tiles from Dimensional Stone were used to create attractive vitality pools in the Skylobby Spa. Carved stone sinks and contoured benches accentuate the exuberant style of this opulent facility. |
